With its unbeatable weather and bike-friendly streets, Santa Monica is a paradise for two-wheelers. Here at The Ambrose, guests have access to a fleet of cruisers to enjoy our beachy destination in the slow lane. One of our favorite bike routes is the 26-mile bike path that follows the along the ocean.
Biking the 26-Mile Route in Santa Monica
Meet up with the 26-mile bike path by heading down Arizona Ave., and arriving at Santa Monica State Beach. Pedal by Pacific Park, and The Original Muscle Beach before stopping for a quick coffee and a scone at Urth Caffe on Main Street.
From breakfast, we’d recommend continuing South toward the Venice Beach Boardwalk—just a six minute ride. Poke around and enjoy everything from mimes and musicians, to fresh juice bars, to your quintessential California surf shops.
Press on around Marina del Rey, and consider stopping at the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve as you circumnavigate the Pacific Ocean, and Ballona Creek. For birdwatching enthusiasts, this freshwater marsh offers the opportunity to see a variety of native species, like the least bittern, the common moorhen and the Canada goose.
End your journey by pedaling another three miles to Dockweiler State Beach. This scenic stretch of sand is home to the Dockweiler Hang Gliding Center. Try the epic sport out for yourself, or simply enjoy a picnic as you watch hang gliding enthusiasts practice their flying above.
Turn the bike around and head back north to Santa Monica. If you time it right, the sun’s evening glow over the Pacific will light your way home to The Ambrose. Mingle with guests in the lobby or head to one of the neighborhood’s bars. You’ve earned that margarita.
