Time is running out to see one of the most significant photography exhibits to grace Los Angeles in recent memory. Photo Ark: One Man’s Quest To Document The World’s Animals is on view now through January 13, 2019. If you’re unsure why you can’t miss it, check out our guide to the exhibit below.
The Project
National Geographic Photo Ark is a years-long project from photographer Joel Sartore. The goal of Sartore and his project is to photograph every species living in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries around the world. The breadth of this project expands over 40 countries, and 8,000 species of animals.
The Exhibit
This beautiful exhibit looking at National Geographic’s Photo Ark features almost 100 large-format prints of the most vibrant animals shot in the project. The animals featured in the exhibit are specifically those representing endangered wildlife, giving a positive political angle to the exhibit.
Hosted at the beautiful Annenberg Space for Photography, the exhibit also features a short documentary film that screens regularly, interactive games, and a studio where guests can take photographs in front of animal backdrops. Additionally, the exhibit has a gallery that features images of California’s indigenous species.
Accompanying Programming
In addition to all of the photography and attractions at the Nat Geo Photo Ark Exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography, there has also been a series of workshops, lecture series, field trips, and other programming inspired by it.
