The end of November and passing of Thanksgiving will soon kickoff the annual holiday shopping season. Following the madness of Black Friday, shoppers can continue to take advantage of incomparable deals and bargains from top notch retailers and brands on Cyber Monday. We also recommend keeping an eye out for specials here at The Ambrose Hotel.

What Is Cyber Monday?

For those who are unfamiliar, Cyber Monday is a shopping holiday for the digital age. It takes place every year on the Monday following Thanksgiving and Black Friday. The tradition dates back to 2005, when a pair of creatives from the National Retail Federation named Ellen Davis and Scott Silverman coined the term. It debuted in a press release for Shop.org, and the discount bonanza has echoed ever since in the form of annual sales from major corporations like Amazon, and online retailers of a wide variety.

Holiday Shopping in Santa Monica

What’s the main advantage of scoring killer deals shopping on Cyber Monday? Those savings open up your budget to include more gifts for your loved ones, and even yourself. When staying with The Ambrose Hotel during your holiday season trip to Santa Monica, you can take those extra dollars to a wide variety of local retailers.

Whether you’re looking for internationally recognized designer brands or artful creations by locals—you can find it all when holiday shopping in and around Santa Monica. Here are some of our favorite local shops to find meaningful gifts.

The Third Street Promenade

This is an upscale shopping, dining, and culture complex located downtown. When visiting, you can shop at retail outlets for major fashion brands including Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Patagonia, Lululemon, and Levi’s.

There are also locally-inspired options at Third Street Promenade like Wasteland, which features a popular collection of vintage California clothes. Also, if you happen to be shopping at The Third Street Promenade on a Wednesday or a Saturday, you can treat yourself to some fresh delights from the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market. On another day, we recommend taking lunch at French-Asian favorite Cassia.

Santa Monica Place

Another can’t-fail option to take your holiday shopping is the open-air Santa Monica Place, which features three levels of shops, restaurants, and movie theatres. If you’re looking to treat a loved one to an extra special gift this year, you can explore designer outlets like Tiffany & Co, Coach, and Rolex. There are iconic family-friendly stores like Disney and Nike, as well as Bloomingdales and Nordstrom.

To make a day of your Santa Monica Place shopping experience, be sure to use some of your Cyber Monday savings and treat yourself to a bite at one of the rooftop restaurants. There’s also an Arclight Cinemas there, which is one of the most upscale and well-programmed movie theatre chains in the world.

Abbot Kinney Boulevard

In addition to these complex-style shopping destinations, Santa Monica visitors are also within arm’s reach of Venice Beach and its famous Abbot Kinney Boulevard. You can shop for high-end jewelry and fashion finds at spots like Aesop, Alexis Bittar, and In Heroes We Trust. When strolling down this iconic street, you’re also bound to discover more trendy boutique shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Finish your visit right by capping it off with a treat from Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream.

Celebrating The Holiday Season in California

In addition to shopping, you can also use your Cyber Monday savings to simply enjoy traveling in Santa Monica during the holiday season. There’s a number of fun and memorable holiday events that take place around town every year. One of our favorites, the Montana Avenue Holiday Walk will take place on December 7th. The event will feature a lively Christmas market, photo opps with Santa Clause, live music, and delicious local eats.

Throughout the rest of the month, there will be a number of other exciting happenings including the annual SANTA Monica Pub Crawl on December 14th, and the Holiday Fun 5k, 10k, 15k, and Half Marathon on December 15th. Also, be sure to check out the Holiday Market on the Santa Monica Pier for some more gift shopping—also on the weekend of the 14th and 15th.
