Art Exhibitions in LA This Winter
Jasper Johns at the The Broad
February 10, 2018-May 13, 2018
This exhibit celebrates American Neo-Dadaist Jasper Johns, highlighting over 100 of his most significant paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. Johns’s use of beeswax, newspaper shreds and other found objects bridged the divide between fine art and popular culture, and his classic works, like Flag, Target, and Fool’s House, are not to be missed this winter. Graffiti as Art at Skirball Cultural Center
Through February 25, 2018
One of the most talked about art exhibitions in LA this season, Surface Tension pays homage to the colorful array of murals, signs, and graffiti that dot Los Angeles’ diverse streets. It explores how people—activists, artists, business owners, transients—use different artistic methods to express their unique perspectives and claim space. It also forces visitors to reconsider the meaning of the word “art.” Can graffiti be as valuable and as expressive as paintings hung in LACMA? The first-ever outdoor installation at Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles
Through March 18, 2018
Sarah Cain’s Now I’m going to tell you everything is the Institute of Contemporary Art’s first courtyard project—erected outside the museum on a set of walls facing 7th Street. Stretched across 800 square feet, this display feels unbound by time and space, running across different surfaces and floors, and incorporating a variety of vibrant items, like backpacks, furniture, jewelry and toys.
